After signing in, check the URL in your address bar. developer.apple.com account manages membership, team roles, certificates, and identifiers, while appstoreconnect.apple.com manages app records, build uploads, TestFlight, and submission status. The same error message can mean different things in each dashboard, so the first step is not to change any information. Instead, save screenshots of the current page URL, the exact error text, and the time it appeared, then determine whether the issue concerns membership, agreements, builds, or review. The main difference between personal and company accounts is found during enrollment and verification. A personal account only needs registration and identity verification. An organization account must also have its D-U-N-S number and organization details verified under Program enrollment in the Developer dashboard. These steps appear under Membership and do not appear in App Store Connect. When someone asks whether an account can publish directly, the first thing to confirm is whether membership is active and all agreements have been signed, not whether the app itself is finished. For a standard submission, follow the process in order. First, check the membership status and expiration date under Membership. Next, open Agreements, Tax, and Banking to confirm that no agreements still require a signature. In App Store Connect, verify under Apps that the app record matches its bundle ID. Upload the build, wait for processing to finish, and select the correct build on the version page. Complete the privacy policy link, age rating, export compliance, and test account information before submitting. An active membership does not mean the app is ready to publish, and a successful build upload does not mean the submission has entered the review queue. When dealing with buying an Apple Developer account or a so-called ready-to-use account, keep two separate sets of terms in mind. Apple's membership fees and renewal rules are defined on the official Program page at developer.apple.com. A third-party provider's price, delivery method, and whether renewal is included are separate terms and should not be presented as though they are part of Apple's official fee. Ownership is especially important: a team has only one Account Holder, who can transfer the role but cannot share it with multiple users. Identity verification and D-U-N-S information must be accurate, and impersonation or forged information will usually surface during review, renewal, or an ownership change. Before taking over an account, confirm whether the password and bound email can be changed, whether the agreements page can be opened, and whether every version record for the app is visible. Use a checklist before submission: confirm that the membership is within its active period, all agreements are signed, the app record matches the certificate configuration, the build has finished processing and been selected, privacy information is complete, the age rating and export compliance questions have been answered, and usable test account details are included in the review notes. Also verify roles and permissions. Admin, App Manager, and Developer roles do not have access to the same pages. When delivering access to an external team, grant only the minimum permissions needed so that the team cannot accidentally modify agreements or delete builds. Do not accept delivery based only on screenshots. The recipient should sign in and verify the account independently: confirm that the app appears in App Store Connect, the relevant build appears in the TestFlight groups, the agreements page shows the account as active, and the version status is Ready for Submission or Waiting for Review. When a team transfer occurs, confirm that the new team appears in the team-switching list and that former members have lost access. During testing, verify which group corresponds to each build, and do not mistake internal testing for external testing. Always rely on the status shown on the page rather than a generic "submitted successfully" message. After submitting, return to the version page and watch the status change. If the submission is rejected, read the original message in Resolution Center before deciding what to change, and avoid repeatedly resubmitting based on guesses. Before and after renewing membership, check the expiration date and new billing period under Membership. Record each verification time and page status in the same delivery log so that future handoffs can be compared directly. Need help buying an Apple Developer account or preparing an app for review?
